The exact reason for the cause of the grass fire was not known and was started at around 4:30 PM. Is was said that tinder-dry condition and increased temperature with minimal rain was the cause.                                                    

On 13th August, there is a sudden appearance of burning grass fire near the area of Canmore. According to sources, Eastern Lane has closed at evening 5:20 PM near Deadman’s flats.

Many photos, videos, and posts are seen over social media and news channels about the closure and informing people to use alternate routes.                                               

Why Is The Closure Essential?

Highway 1 Closure Canmore happened due to grass fire; a huge smoke is drifting all around the freeway. People passing on the highway found the smoke accumulate all the way long, and the site was not clear. As a result, it is almost impossible to travel the stretch, and at the same time, it is unsafe. 

Canmore Firefighter Association announced that the people of Kananaskis, Canmore and Exshaw are responding to a grass fire. Therefore, all the traffic was rerouted till further instruction. How was the Fire at Highway 1 Closure Canmore?

According to news updates, as of evening 6:45 PM, the grass fire had already burned more than 10 hectares of land and was totally out of control. After 6 PM, firefighters dropped water and flame retardant liquid from the top. 

At around 8:30 PM, Fire Rescue announced the air suppression would continue till sunset. And Fire Department said that more than 20 wildland firefighters crew are working on it along with 5 Helicopters and air tankers.

After 9 PM on Friday, a few of the lanes had opened. However, the westbound route of Trans remained closed on Friday night. Because of heavy smoke, people are advised to slow the drive and caution while driving.
